Protect children from mobile phone radiation – right from the start!
Precautionary measures and recommendations
During pregnancy
- Completely avoid your mobile phone/smartphone and other mobile devices such as DECT phones and Wi-Fi-supported devices.
- If possible, replace your cell phone/smartphone with a corded phone (if possible with a low-electrosmog receiver based on piezo crystals, available from: http://www.telefonmanufaktur.de/home/Friedrich_Reiner.html ). If unavoidable, only activate your mobile phone/smartphone in a targeted manner and otherwise switch it to airplane mode (all radiation will be switched off).
- Only use routers with Wi-Fi that can be switched off. Avoid Wi-Fi in the home as often as possible, if necessary only switch it on in a targeted manner and for a short time.
- Stay away from radiation sources such as radiating routers or access points as well as from people who use radiating cell phones/smartphones/tablets, etc., or ask them to switch their cell phones to airplane mode.

After the birth
- Avoid using a mobile phone/smartphone near your child as much as possible! Keep conversations short, use the hands-free system. Turn off your mobile phone/smartphone as often as possible.
- Do not use DECT telephones or WLAN. Use radiation-free alternatives such as wired phones, computers, and tablets.
- Only use devices that meet building biology requirements as wireless baby monitors, i.e. no devices with the DECT standard.
We recommend the following low-radiation baby monitors: Hartig&Helling MBF 3333 or Funny Angelcare AC 423-D/AC 403-D (cf. https://www.diagnose-funk.org) - Do not put a switched on mobile phone in the stroller.
- If unavoidable, generally keep your distance from other people, especially children, when making calls with your mobile phone or DECT phone.
- Inform your neighbours or the management of kindergartens and primary schools in order to minimise radiation exposure for children.

Children, adolescents and adults
In 2016, the Vienna Medical Association issued the following recommendations, which are also supported by many other organizations:
- In principle, the following applies: Make as few and as short calls as possible with your mobile phone/smartphone! Minimize your personal radiation exposure!
- Children under the age of 8 should not use cell phones/smartphones or cordless phones. Children between the ages of 8 and 16 should only use cell phones/smartphones in an emergency.
- At home and at work, you should make calls via the landline and only surf via cable: because Internet access via a LAN cable does not radiate, is fast and data-secure. Continuously radiating DECT cordless phones, WLAN access points, data sticks and LTE home base stations (box, cube, etc.) should be avoided! If Wi-Fi is indispensable for you, turn it off as often as possible, it is harmful to your health and harmful to your health in the long run.
- Do not carry your mobile phone/smartphone switched on on your body, neither in your trouser pocket (affects later fertility) nor in your breast pocket (impairs breast tissue, heart function and lungs, among other things). When not in use, keep it at a distance from the body, e.g. in your handbag or school bag.
- "The distance is your friend!" - If possible, never make calls with your mobile phone/smartphone on your ear! Use the built-in hands-free function or headsets. If necessary, keep it as far away from your head as possible or use a mobile phone case with radiation protection.
- Go offline more often and activate airplane mode as often as possible – an internet connection is not always necessary for functions such as listening to music, camera, alarm clock, calculator or offline games!

- Fewer apps means less radiation – minimise the number of apps and deactivate the most superfluous background services on your smartphone. Deactivating "Mobile Services" or "Data Network Mode" almost turns the smartphone back into an "old" type of mobile phone: You can still be reached, but avoid a lot of unnecessary radiation from the background data traffic of the apps! After reactivating the apps, you should definitely refrain from any use for about 5 minutes and keep your distance from the smartphone, as all apps load missing data at the same time, which can lead to high radiation exposure.
- When buying mobile phones, make sure that the SAR value is as low as possible (see http://www.handywerte.de), OTG capability (https://www.inside-handy.de/handys-mit-usb-on-the-go), and an external antenna connection! The OTG function (OTG = On The Go) allows you in particular to exchange data with the Internet via your router via USB-OTG cable, a USB Ethernet adapter (e.g. www.amazon.de / search term: USB-OTG network adapter) and a network cable and avoid WLAN! Instructions: http://praxistipps.chip.de/android-mit-lan-verbinden-so-gehts_36178 or at www.ises-suedbaden.de
- Avoid making mobile phone calls in places with poor reception (basement, elevator, bus and train, etc.) – in such situations, the mobile phone increases the transmission power. In case of poor reception quality, use a headset or, if possible, the hands-free system!
Behavior in the car
- Do not make phone calls in vehicles (car, bus, train) – without an external antenna, the radiation in the vehicle is higher. In addition, you are distracted and you harass your fellow passengers on public transport!
- While driving, there is an absolute ban on texting and Internet working, because the distraction leads to self-endangerment and the endangerment of other road users!
